Hampshire council tax precept remains among the lowest in the country
Hampshire residents will see their council tax remain one of the lowest in the country while valued services are protected, following agreement of the budget today (Thursday 14 February) by Hampshire County Council of a council tax increase of 2.99 per cent.
Councillor Roy Perry, Leader of Hampshire County Council, said: “Despite continued pressures and growing demands on services, I am proud to say we are offering some of the best local services in the country. We are committed to protecting the services on which Hampshire residents depend – particularly those for the most vulnerable in our communities. This increase is much lower than last year’s and means that Hampshire continues to levy one of the lowest council tax precepts of any county council, nationally.”
The County Council agreed an increase of 2.99 per cent in the council tax precept for Hampshire County Council’s element of the tax, for the financial year beginning 1 April 2019. This equates to an annual charge of £1,236.87 for a Band D property – an increase of just under £36 per year or 70 pence a week. It will generate an additional £18 million for County Council services.
Councillor Roy Perry, Leader of Hampshire County Council, added: “Continued long term, careful financial planning has allowed us to deliver low council tax for Hampshire residents. This prudent strategy, along with the County Council’s scale and capacity, means that despite significant growing demand for services and rising inflation, we can continue to deliver high quality public services for the people of Hampshire.”
